What is this?

Memetic warfare is an emergent form of strategic conflict deployed to leverage arguments and persuasive tactics in order to shape public opinion, create political or economic advantage, or achieve a desired cultural outcome. It relies on effective use of memes—defined as a contagious idea or philosophy that spreads from various sources, often utilizing symbols and gestures. In particular, memetic warfare makes use of Internet technologies, such as social media and trolling, in order to influence public opinion, establish counter-narratives, and undermine the political views of adversaries.
